#16-1101 - Exhaust Wrap to Replace Heat Shield.pdf

Recently, the Capitol District New York Head Mechanics Association hosted what has become their annual “NYSDOT Roundtable.” They had a great showing and valuable information was passed between DOT and School Operators. One issue raised by Rusty Seastrum, was the use of heat wrap in place of “tin” shields especially around fuel tanks. As he stated, the regulations require an 8” distance between exhaust and fuel tanks and most manufacturers use metal shields. These shields often have a short lifespan in the Northeast winter with the chemicals used. He also mentioned that just like any product there are varying grades and to make sure that the higher grade product was used with an 1800* - 2000* heat rating.

New York Bus Sales has used the same high quality material for some time and wanted to make sure that everyone was aware we were compliant with the specification mentioned. All pertinent information can be found on the attachment.
