• State HMA; Harlan and Gerald reported on some information received from the Albany meeting, the reflective “School Bus” sign did not pass, There appears that there may be a shortage of DOT Inspectors, LED lights were discussed with answers coming soon, Discussion took place on NYS Bus Contractors have stated that are totally behind the HMA and are recommending that their mechanics attend the meetings and seminars. The NYHMA is in full support of NYAPT in their quest to appeal the seat belt requirements in school buses and fire suppression program that is now being designed for acceptance. There is other organization’s that feel these items need to be dealt with.
• NYSDOT; no representatives were present at this time, it was stated that some inspectors are extending their areas to keep up with need.

Vendor Information;
• Adam offered information on a future written standard for spring wear points on International/ suspensions and if they would affect inspections, there has been a specifications sheet that has been presented but it has been found that the manufactured specs have changed; Adam is waiting for a confirmed specification and procedures for these inspections. Discussion took place on these issues.
• Matthews noted that their facilities will be closed thought the holiday’s and will reopen on 3 January 2012.
• Mark Superior Lubricates R134 available on sale so if you interested in this product the delivery is planned for February so contact Mark if you have a need.
• Bill Wolff wish to let everyone present and those that read the minutes that Penn Detroit Allison has and will continue to have some name changes in the next few months. The phone numbers will stay the same! There may be some unusual messages that appear to be wrong, they are not so just continue using the same lines for communications and listen to the menu and you will find your way. Contact their office if there are any further questions for Penn Power Systems. This is going to be the identifier for Penn Detroit Diesel, Penn Vehicle Solutions, and Penn Power Systems.

Round Table:
• Check transmission light question, about filter change needed, discussion took place on a Tech Bulletin from John Johnson on this also that you can turn this feature off if needed, and discussion took place on this item.
• Gerry noted they have had a rash of belt tensioner failures, you need to look up from the bottom at the tensioner and check for a broken mounting pin, this appears to be a new series and a belt squeal is the first indicator. This is on Cummins Engines.
• Ed engine light issue that is corrected with updates being done, feedback issues with some electronics.
• 05 IC’s ecm power cable fuses are failing due to age and wear, Flex plate/ flywheels failure due to starter issues and recommendations to up-to-date to new type starters.
• The issue of corrosion on metals of fuel tanks and of wiring issues has been an issue with many companies not just Thomas etc., there was a discussion on this issue that took place with many alternatives, the question is why are we not stopping this issue on the manufacturing end rather than inventing a way for us to prevent something that should not be taking place?
• Balancing of front tires was discussed on who does and does not see a need! Rim manufacture dates were discussed also, some have moved rims around their fleet and the age of these wheels may have an issue in the future.
• Discussion on the quick response of a district going to the aid of another out of area district with a break down, with the quick contact to the nearer district made a fast response that got the effective students and instructor to the needed destination. The joint partnership of all districts is what makes this organization work to its purpose. A quick reaction can save a lot of time for all involved.
• Discussion took place with the recommendation for a new phone book of the HMA contact list this was recommendation to check into a printing a new list.
• BOCES is being more involved with their interest in running the bus operations in the Dryden area.
• Plastic fuel tanks can be used on buses if a supplier can be found

Next meeting will be at Stadium International; this will take place at the Stadium Training center which is just past the main building on the left Y near the old Ideal Lease Building.

Motion made for adjournment of this meeting, seconded, and accepted.

Thanks again to Penn Detroit Allison for sponsoring this meeting and their continued support.
