It would help greatly for someone to step up and take control of this committee. Meeting of the Summer Seminar Committee will be planned soon. Vendor registration letters will be sent out later this month. Presenters list is being prepared, if there is something that needs to be considered contact Harlan until his replacement is found. NYSDOT; No new information has been offered, it was noted that performance based inspections are still being considered. The increase of DOT personnel is still not being addressed, as it stands now. There was a discussion on the lighting section of the NYDOT laws, on what was presented at the last meeting and the meeting prior. The question on why the light being inoperative at the time of inspection no matter the style or type (led, single bulb, etc.) not be considered a “B” for out of service criteria. Mike noted the information that they had received and the reasons that these rules were made. Discussion took place on this subject; some offered their feelings on this subject, with no definitive answer. It was recommended that a committee be organized to research this subject and consider any and all proposals.
Bus accidents were discussed and the proper procedures to follow when an incident occurs. It was noted that if there is a break down with students on board and they needed to be transferred to another bus it should be reported to DOT, contact your inspector for the new and updated form and requirements stated in 723 for incident reporting. DOT is looking for patterns of break downs and conditions.

Vendor Information;
• Frey offered to put a training program together for brake foundation if need for the 2013 Summer Seminar.
• Mark from Superior noted that he can also gather a training program together for oils and lubricates for the February meeting.
• Ken from Stadium thanks to everyone for attending the meeting at their facility. DT non-catalyst mufflers that have been found to be leaking exhaust, there is a welded replacement that has been found, contact Ken at Stadium for more information.

Round Table:
• Liverpool CSD Gerry, noted an issue with GM 6 liter won’t go into regeneration, found that a plugged DPF caused this problem. John Johnston noted that many of these problems are contributed to DEF contamination. Discussions on this issue were presented. Proper care of dispensing and handling were discussed. The NYBS bulletin on the filler can plugging up were covered.
• Bob Duquette introduced Dana Nelson as the new head mechanic of Baldwinsville CSD, congratulation to Dana.
• Dana noted Baldwinsville will hopefully be able to attend more meetings and assist in the mission of the NYHMA.
• Lou asked for information on the “VenTech heat generators”, John Johnston offered his knowledge that he has on the product that they offer from there company. Comparisons of products were covered.
• Harlan stated that he has had a few Dosing Valve leaks, which Cummins has taken in for repair, Discussion on BOCES bids that are surfacing with many type offers to the School Bus transportation system.
• Fuel filter issue was discussed, that each district needs to monitor were their fuel comes from and what additives are in it prior to adding other additives. Many are not compatible. Fuel blending discussion took place.
• Vic noted; Check valves springs failure in BB SR7, freezing air lines from dryer to compressor on newer buses appear to have the problem, recommendations and ideas were presented. Allison transmission shift points will be changing to help for better fuel mileage; this is joint determination with Cummins & Allison.
• Paul questioned all those present on the bus replacement cycle program of their districts, ranges were for 5 year to 15 years. Early trade like at 5 years, some have found the trade in value is ways up so costs to operate are down.
