Installing long stroke brake chambers as replacements to standard stroke brake chambers is considered a modifiction and as such you much have written consent from the vehicle manufacturer to show that the vehicle is manufactured to handle long stroke brake chambers and you must be able to provide NYSDOT with such documentation.
REMEMBER IF YOU ALTER/MODIFY VEHICLE COMPONETS WITHOUT
MANUFACTURERS CONSENT, YOU ARE PERSONALLY LIABLE.
MOST new school buses are coming the last few years with long stroke brake chambers both front and rear, also long stroke brake chambers use different diaphragms (which are deeper).
From what i am finding several manufacturers are using 24/30 or 30/30 long stroke rear brake chambers and 24 long stroke front brake chambers so it is extremely important that before replacing brake chambers on any school bus, you know what your bus requires.
Mismatching or wrong replacement part is a "A" defect.
