• Meeting held at Johnson City Transportation Department.
• In Attendance: Rick Crowe (WPCSD) / Mark Painter (NVCSD) / Bill Hawk (WCSD) / Brad Jacobs (CVCSD) / Ron Zielewicz (MECSD) / Ron Eastman (MECSD)/ Dusty Corwin (MECSD) / Jeff Corey (NYSDOT) / Paul Schoch (LBS) / Cliff Halliday (OACSD) / Carl Simerson (OACSD)

• Rick brought our meeting to order by introducing our meeting sponsor Kevin Chapin of North East Oil.
• Kevin explained some of his company’s products and services. Some of these are, Lubrication Engineers oil distribution as well as Grease, Hydraulic Oil, Permanent fully formulated pre-mixed antifreeze, API Certified DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), Oil analysis program, Welding rod, and Fleet and Equipment Reliability Assessment.
• Kevin assured us that with the use of LE’s conventional engine oil that we would be able to substantially increase our oil change intervals. He sited a particular fleet that he has been working with and they were able to increase there oil change interval to 28,000 miles. This was four times there original interval and oil analysis indicated the oil was still serviceable and good for another 8,000 miles of service. The only reason for changing the oil at that time was oil consumption rates exceeded cost effectiveness.
• When talking oil analysis Kevin said that he has a fleet of over the road trucks that have increased their oil change interval’s to between 80,000 and 100,000 miles. When asked how this was possible Kevil went on to explain that it was due to LE’s superior additive package and the fact that the trucks had very large oil capacity of 40 quarts. He was asked at what TBN (total base number) LE’s oil was recommended to be changed. He indicated that the oil started out with a TBN of 8 and recommended changing at a TBN of 4 though he has seen vehicles run with TBN’s as low as 2 with no ill effects, no high wear metals, acids, and still maintaining a healthy additive package. Kevin encouraged everyone in attendance to give his product a try. This concluded Kevin’s presentation.
• Rick then opened the floor to general discussion and mush discussion took place. It seems that everyone is concerned with budgets, tech to vehicle ratios, and recommendations by various organizations for standard operating procedures, pending changes to DOT inspection regulations, etc.
• This concluded our meeting at approx. 11:40 am.
• Our next meeting is scheduled for May 10, 2011 10 am at J.C.’s Bus Garage. Hope to see you all there.
