My counterpart in the truck inspection program witnessed the passing of a stopped school bus. He also observed that the red crossing light lenses were so faded that it was not discernible that they were to be red.

Recent studies have indicated that motorists passing stopped school buses is a serious problem nationwide.

Please inform all of your staff that any red crossing light lens or stop arm lens that when the lamp is lighted appears to have the slightest variance from the color red due to aging or exposure must be identified, and the operator required to replace the lens before the bus is used in service. They are to use OOS code 26.07 1 with an “A” defect.
